I am astonished at a people who weep for al-Ḥusayn عجبا لقوم يبكون على الحسين
I am astonished at a people who weep for al-Ḥusayn, yet let down the Kunāsa of Kūfā (Imām Zayd), al-Jawzajān (Imām Yaḥyā b. Zayd), Aḥjār al-Zayt (Imām Nafs Zakīyya), Bākhumrā (Imām Nafs Radhīyya), Fakhkh (Imām Ḥusayn Ṣaḥib Fakhkh), al-Ṭalaqān (Imām Yaḥyā b. ʿAbdullāh b. al-Ḥasan), Ṣaʿda (Imām al-Hādī), and Amul (Imām al-Nāṣir al-Uṭrūsh)!
عجباً لقوم يبكونَ على الحُسين ويخذلون كُناسة الكُوفة ، والجَوزجان ، وأحجَار الزيت ، وباخمراَ ، وفخ ، والطالقان ، وصعدة ، وآمل !.
Did al-Imām al-Kāẓim engage in Taqīyya with al-Imām al-Qāsim هل كان الإمام موسى بن جعفر الكاظم يتقي من الإمام نجم آل الرسول القاسم الرسي
– Question:
Can you inform us regarding the “taqīyya” which is intended by al-Ḥāfiḍ Muḥammad b. Manṣūr al-Murādī?
Wherein it is narrated by al-Ḥāfiḍ Abū ʿAbdullāh Muḥammad b. ʿAlī al-Baṭḥānī al-Ḥasanī al-ʿAlawī in his book al-Jāmʿ al-Kāfī fī fiqh al-Zaydīyya.
Wherein he states: ((And it was narrated to me from al-Qāsim, from Mūsā b. Jaʿfar, he said: ((Do not engage in Qunūt, and whatever occurs to you is my responsibility)).
Muḥammad said: The context of this from Mūsā according to me is that it was said under taqīyya.
Was al-Imām Mūsā b. Jaʿfar engaging in taqīyya from the Star of the Ahl al-Bayt al-Imām al-Qāsim b. ʾIbrāhīm (upon them be peace)?!
– Answer:
It is important to note, and consider that the attribution of taqīyya is the saying, and claim of al-Ḥāfiḍ Muḥammad b. Manṣūr al-Murādī (May Allāh, the Exalted, have mercy on him).
Such isn’t the fact of the matter with regards to al-Imām Mūsā b. Jaʿfar (upon them be peace). The matter is that al-Ḥāfiḍ presumed from the saying of al-Imām Mūsā b. Jaʿfar (upon them be peace) when he stated: ((Don’t engage in Qunūt))
That he intends Qunūt is not legally binding, and none from among the Imāms of the Ahl al-Bayt (upon them be peace) hold such a position. As such, he attributed it to taqīyya.
Whereas, the context of the report is an indication that Qunūt is not among the obligatory acts. Rather, it is from among the supererogatory, and recommended deeds. Hence, if one does not act upon it, then they’re not held to account. However, acting upon it is preferable and it is a Sunnah. This is in regards to the fiqh of the report.
Another matter is that al-Ḥāfiḍ Abā ʿAbdullāh al-ʿAlawī did not transmit the entirety of the report, and this is the report of al-Ḥāfiḍ Muḥammad b. Manṣūr al-Murādī in its entirety from his book Amālī Aḥmad b. ʿĪsā b. Zayd, wherein it states: ((And he said [i.e al-Ḥāfiḍ Muḥammad b. Manṣūr] and I was informed by al-Qāsim b. ʾIbrāhīm, from Mūsā b. Jaʿfar (upon him be peace), that he said to a man: ((Do not engage in Qunūt, and whatever occurs to you is my responsibility)).
Muḥammad said: The context of this report from Musā b. Jaʿfar (upon him be peace) according to me is that it was done under taqīyya.
As such, the person isn’t al-Imām al-Qāsim b. ʾIbrāhīm (upon them be peace) and that’s if we accept what al-Ḥāfiḍ Muḥammad b. Manṣūr holds in that the context pertained to a supererogatory act.
Indeed, the honorable men from the progeny, from the sons of al-Ḥasan, and al-Ḥusayn don’t engage in taqīyya between themselves.
Their guidance is one, and their creed is one.
As for al-Imām Mūsā b. Jaʿfar, he is among the Shaykhs of al-Imām al-Qāsim b. ʾIbrāhīm (upon him he peace) and he is among those he intended when he said: ((I have encountered the grand Shaykhs from the sons of al-Ḥasan, and al-Ḥusayn and there is no difference [in creed] between them)).¹

¹ – al-Sayyid al-Khūʾī transmits the saying of al-Najāshī in his Muʿjam, wherein he states: al-Najāshī said: al-Qāsim al-Rassī b. ʾIbrāhīm Ṭabāṭabā b. ʾIsmāʿīl b. ʾIbrāhīm b. al-Ḥasan b. al-Ḥasan b. ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib
– He has a book which he narrates from his father, and other than him, from Jaʿfar b. Muḥammad.
– And he narrated it from Mūsā b. Jaʿfar, upon him be peace.
– al-Sayyid al-Khūʾī said: al-Najāshī mentioned that he [al-Imām al-Qāsim] narrated from Mūsā b. Jaʿfar, upon him be peace.
